About Us
At St. Barnabas, worship, praise, and prayer are
very much a part of our daily
life. We work hard at proclaiming the good
news of our risen Lord. Fellowship within our own
Church and with people in the community also forms
an integral part of our life.
From its establishment as a Mission in the east end
of the City of St. Catharines in 1870, St. Barnabas
was known as the “High English Church.” St. Barnabas
has a reputation for its orthodox faith, strong
devotional life, classical musical tradition, missionary commitment, and its catholic
loyalties.
Music at St. Barnabas
One of the wonderful aspects of St. Barnabas is the
emphasis placed on continuity with the long Anglican
musical tradition. We look for music from throughout the
history of the Christian Church that can inspire and
open us to the sublime. Ritualized behaviour and
beautiful music combine to create a mystical atmosphere
as song and incense spiral heavenward. Many senses
contribute to the worship experience: the pomp and
pageantry of processions please the eye, while the
glorious strains of voices uplifted in adoration touch
the ear, amidst the fragrant church.
